Building Materials and Specifications
Even though we are living now in a modern time and people wants to use new building materials, there are still indigenous and local materials that are widely used all over our country today. Indigenous materials are materials that are locally and naturally found in a specific place. It can be a stone, clay, metal or timber. Whatever it is, it can still be their primary source and material to be used since it can be easily found in their places and use it not just for art crafts but also as a building material.

In Filipino architecture, they've established the importance of using sawali as an indigenous material used for constructing walls. We usually see this in our very own nipa huts. There's nothing wrong with using and patronizing our own local and indigenous products because it has an advantage too and one example is its availability. You don't have to go outside the country just to get or have the materials needed because you already have your own and anytime you can get those without going out of your place and country.

Also in using green materials, not the literally color green but the environmentally responsible materials have something to do with your overall design and it is about being sustainable. Being sustainable in terms of architecture seeks and aims to minimize the negative impact of buildings in our surroundings and improve the quality of life in touch with their life cycle including maintenance. These green materials are also naturally and locally found in a specific place.
