Movement System

In our everyday lives we always move. It can be just right after we wake up in the morning or outside and inside the house. Everything that we do there is a movement. Different directions, angles, ways, and kinds. Whatever it is we just need to comfortably and efficiently execute the movement and the type of work that we are going to do. That's why in a building or in architecture, I must say that movement system is very much important wherein this is the act and process of moving one person or a thing from a certain place, point or position to another. In movement system, there are things to consider namely the Operational Movement, Time and Motion Study, User Circulation, Clearances, Ingress and Egress.

Operational movement usually refers to how workers and employees do their job. Their workplace also needs to be unobstructed for them to do a better job that will not use much time. For example, in a factory, employees inside has its own department or section (wrapping department, receiving department, etc.) wherein it is based on the work they specifically need to be done and also based on the organized flow of their works.

People move either day or night because we always move and do such thing. We can't be productive without moving that's why as an architect we need to consider and study about time and motion because there is a certain time for every certain condition. It also refers to the speed and efficiency of the users in a building. User circulation refers to how people interact and move through a building.

Sometimes due to bad planning there is such thing called traffic in terms of circulation that is existing inside a building which is as much as possible it is important that we should prevent from happening in the first place whether it is a residential, commercial or industrial type of building. Circulation of the users or occupants needs to be unobstructed especially in public buildings for them to smoothly execute their work without hesitations that it may cause traffic inside it.

Clearances are the distance of one object that clears from another or literally the space between the both of them. These are also important to consider for you to have a better planning. Knowing the clearances between spaces will let you come up with a more efficient and convenient workplace for the users.

Entrances and emergency exits are both needed in a building. It is better to have many entrances and exits especially for large public buildings to cater all the occupants if there's a case of emergency. It also needs to be accessible and clearly visible for everyone to reach so that it will not be useless. Entrances should also be properly secured to refrain burglars from entering the building.
